Art and Design
Art speaks for us when we can’t explain.
Mushana, Year 6 pupil
The Art and Design curriculum at St Peter's provides pupils with the confidence, knowledge and skills to attempt a wide variety of challenging, stimulating and enjoyable creative opportunities. Children are encouraged to develop their ideas making links and connections with the work of artists and designers from a variety of cultures. The knowledge of this practice, combined with the opportunities to explore many materials and techniques in both 2D and 3D, and with the advent of VR and AR 4D, leads to ambitious outcomes. An exciting mixed media approach is applied to projects to stimulate curiosity, creativity and imagination.
Throughout the curriculum, all pupils have the opportunity to experiment with drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, printing, clay relief, sculpture, graphics, textiles, fashion, architecture and design.
Pupils' achievements are celebrated every year at Founders Day but their work is continually on show around the school, on the walls of classrooms and hallways and in the Cedar Hub. Our gallery in the School Hall is the place where a variety of year groups work is always on display. As a school we enter works into the ISA and SATIPS annual Art exhibitions and competitions, with great success.
