School Information
The school is brilliant. It is full of ideas and lets me be me.
Jess, Year 6
High standards of teaching, coupled with positive attitudes to learning, results in pupils fulfilling their potential in all aspects of their education. The foundations are laid in the Lower School, where there are approximately 40 children aged 4 to 7. Children enter Reception Class aged 4 for full-time education.
Within small classes, the best of traditional and modern teaching methods combine to provide an effective learning experience.
The Upper School contains 35 pupils between the ages of 7 and 11. The majority of our pupils progress from Lower School, though mid school entry can be considered. Boys and girls are prepared for entry to a wide variety of secondary schools in both the maintained and independent sectors. The use of specialist teachers ensures high academic standards and the timetable encourages all children to experience Art, Music, Drama, and Sport at the highest levels.
Our newest state-of-the-art Cedar Hub building sits happily in the setting alongside the main building, and three full size tennis courts add to the superb sporting facilities. Extensive and well tended grass lawns surround the School and a nature area and pond can be found at the bottom of the site. Team games have a high priority and provide opportunities for all abilities. The impressive Sunnylands School Hall provides a wonderful venue for a range of class activities, assemblies or school drama that takes place, plus musical concerts and recitals. Here, and across the School, the walls and classrooms reveal a wonderful variety of paintings and drawings that demonstrate the children’s imaginative and inspirational work.
The latest addition to our impressive facilities is the superb Cedar Hub, featuring an eco-friendly open-plan teaching space for two classes, wrap around care, a kitchen and a relaxation area.
The school day is further enriched by a programme of activities and clubs, ensuring that personal interests are well catered for. It is often at this time that untapped interests are developed and unthinkable talents discovered. This programme extends across both Lower School and Upper School, offering additional flexibility for parents at the end of the school day.
